| Dear Parent, Teacher or Other Persons Interested in Homeschooling,
I hope you will find the enclosed material helpful in your research on homeschooling. This pack is also available on-line. Here is the link to the table of contents where you can just click on an article title and that article will open: http://www.hawaiihomeschoolassociation.org/HHA/resources/pack4.html. H.A.P.P.Y. was the original inclusive homeschool support group on Maui but as the children of the Founder and original members have all grown up, most of these functions have been carried on by other groups. Subsequent groups have pretty much followed in the footsteps of H.A.P.P.Y. All activities and field trips were open to all homeschoolers and were free except where the activity itself had a fee, though we often got group-rates for these. Besides the fun and learning for the parents and youngsters, these gatherings gave us a chance to meet new friends, to network, and offer each other support and encouragement. Some examples of field trips we took are: airport crash rescue, Wailuku Post Office, Haleakala Solar Observatory, MCC Science Labs, tour of the Grand Hyatt, Whale Watch and much more. Hikes have included Waihee stream, Lahaina L, Twin Falls, Kenaio Temple, and Waikamoi Ridge. H.A.P.P.Y. homeschoolers camped in Haleakala Crater, at Polipoli and had 7 cabins at Wainapanapa. Classes have included computer, auto mechanics, drum, ukulele, martial arts, diving and free art classes at Hui NoEau. To find out more about who is doing these now, please contact me at the above e-mail address. For a specifically Christian-oriented group, go to their website at http://homeschooling.about.com/od/hisg/p/hisgcheom.htm There's no substitute for reading and understanding the homeschooling regulations. A copy is in this pack which I suggest that you photocopy or print from the on-line version so you have your own copy. You may want to check with me to see if the laws have been revised since this pack was compiled. Also, if your principal gave you a copy of the laws, double check that they are the most recent laws. Sometime schools still have older versions. As H.A.P.P.Y. Founder, I now do free phone consulting and referrals and I do in-person tutoring and homeschool consulting for a fee. I am always available to help you with your homeschooling questions, references, problems, and such. With Aloha |
