for a day with David Albert:
Homeshooling Workshops for Parents

Albert's work is unique in the world of homeschooling, as he bridges the worlds between those who homeschool primarily for religious reasons and those with more secular approaches. "It is sometimes forgotten," he notes, that homeschoolers of all kinds homeschool for the same reason; namely, that we can provide a quality education for our children beyond anything that is even conceivable in a public school setting, and that we are willing to reorient our entire lives to make that possible."

"For those of you who have scheduled David Albert to speak, and are eagerly awaiting it, you will NOT be disappointed! So funny, so enlightening, and so worth hearing! I think we had a room full of mostly new homeschoolers who were looking for the practical stuff, but David brings a REASON why we homeschool, thoughts that tickle your intellect and warm your heart. YOU'LL LOVE HIM!" - Sherry Stacy Olympia (Washington) Christian Homeschooling Support Group

SCHEDULE

2:30 PM Check-in. Book table open before and after each of David's talks.

3 PM Learning About Learning: Conversations With My Violin. Contrasts the rather strange principles that lie at the heart of public education with the actual learning process itself. Using the violin as example, David examines the five internal dialogues that take place in both children and adults when real learning really happens. Lots of anecdotes, show-and-tell, and humor.

5:00 PM Potluck Dinner Meet and talk with other homeschooling parents and our guest speaker. Bring a dish to share including serving utensil. Small kitchen available for reheating food, but no cooking allowed. Paper goods and drinks will be provided.

7 PM Don't Worry, Be Happy - We all pay lip-service to the idea that our children should be happy. But is there such a thing as "education for happiness," not just in the present but that would carry over into our children's future as well? Is there a way that the quality of the learning quest can contribute to our children's sense of fulfillment, and enhance their quality of living as adults? David will provide specific ideas that can promote optimal experience for the entire homeschooling family.

Program ends at 8:30. Please help clean up so we can be out by 9 PM.

CHILD CARE

Sorry, this workshops if for adults. No child care is available. Considerate mothers of nursing infants are welcome to bring baby along.
